OB rack up another win Boys, we got the job done once again. A hard fought 5-2 win. An excellent turnout this evening - 13 on the teamsheet. This means everyone except Darren has not met the quota for the playoffs with Darren having only to play in the last game to do so. This win, combined with Century 21's slim 5-4 win, and Coconut Joes 8-3 win vs. CITCO last night, means we are still top and have actually extended our lead on goal difference to +10 over 2nd place C21 and +16 over 3rd place CJoes. Our destiny is in our own hands - we win over KPMG by a suitable margin and we are champions, my friend! Once again those that missed it missed a hell of a game! A hell of a game! everyone ran their bollocks off and really put it in. The game was won on hustle and grit, we wanted it more and took it from a more skillful team. Four scorers contributed the 5 goals and although at times we were a bit frantic at the beginning as usual, when we slowed it down a bit and knocked it around, the goals came! It also helped later in the game to just take the sting out of them a bit. Considering we played 10 or 12 mins of the game a man down, it was even more of a great result Another solid performance between the sticks from Wayne combined with solid play from Steve R, Ray, Dom and Matt saw them have minimal chances. The midfield really got stuck in and dominated the middle for most of the game. Even with 6 in the midfield, everyone subbed well and played some lovely football! Jess, Joe, Darren, Chris, Steve "Lasher" G and even "Gimpy" Inky all made great contributions to the midfield battle which at times, was the difference in the game. Tim and the gaffer held the front-line with a quality performance by Tim and unfortunately another not-so-great performance from the Gaffer, who couldn't seem to hit the broad side of a barn with a bazooka! We started like lightening, 1-0 up in the first 30 secs! A shot from the Gaffer from the right, rebounded off the back to Steve G on the left, and with his new found midfield-scoring-streak made no mistake, powering it into the back of the net for his 4th of the season. They unfortunately equalized a short time later and went up 2-1 with about 10 mins to go in the half. Not to be discouraged we fought back hard and equalized when Tim got the ball in the right corner near their goal, floated across the top of the box and cooly slotted it home for his 8th goal of the season. Not finished yet, another clean finish from Steve G capped a wonderful, flowing move for the go ahead goal making it 3-2. The ball started with Wayne, who passed to Ray on the left. He passed across to Matt on the right just over the half way line who sent a cross court pass to the gaffer at the top left corner of their box. A slight hesitation by the gaffer drew the defender, the ball then passed to Steve G who fired home into the top right hand corner for his 2nd of the night and 5th of the season. The second half saw the mode of the game change, with it starting to get a bit rough around the edges. Our 4th actually came when we were a man down via a brilliant solo run by Dominic. Collecting the ball just inside their half, he ran it down the left, holding off his defender the whole way before slamming it into the far corner for his 4th of the season - an impressive tally for a defender. After several heated challenges, and their mounting frustration the 5th goal came when they were pressing forward looking for a goal. The ball was stolen by Steve R who played a pin-point through ball for the Gaffer to run on it. With a man at his heals, the 5th came on a drive into the top left hand corner for his 21st of the season and out came the Buddha. Magic. The came was actually then called with just over 2mins left as Caledonian became belligerent to the ref who ended it. |
