OB file 10K with Fortis in QFs
A statement was made. And that statement is the Old Boys are for real! For those that missed it, a 10-0 drubbing of Fortis was a flattering result for them, based on the number of chances we could have put away!
I can’t really such much besides it was a near flawless performance. Wayne could had picnic dinner with the amount he had to do and when he did, he looked as cool as the other side of the pillow! The defence was absolutely rock solid, with Fortis getting no more than 2 shots on target the whole game. Inky, Ian, Steve R and Dom gave away about as much as a Jewish loan officer. In the midfield, Chris, Joe, Des Steve G and Matt took bull by the horns and gave it a spanking, controlling the midddle the entire game with pinpoint passing and tons of running. Up front Tim & the Gaffer lead what ended up a lethal assault and our best result of the season. Support on the bench came from the injured Ray and Jess with Rob M lending his experience and Betty leading the Comins cheering section!
The first 5 mins were a bit tense as we often tend to be and we really didn’t find our rhythm til about 10 mins in. The first goal came from Dom, a brilliant solo effort to muscle the ball in from the top of the box. Dom was the provider of the 2nd goal as well firing into an open net from close range. The half ended with us in front 2-0 but the best was yet to come.
Averaging a goal every 3 mins in the second half, the demons were unleashed. Tim stared the onslaught 2 mins in and followed up with 2 more smooth finishes for his hat-trick. The Gaffer then came on to work his magic, curving in a free kick and firing home to make it 7-0. Steve G continued his scoring form of late, after the Gaffer turned provider, with Steve driving it past the keeper from the left. The ninth goal came courtesy of Route 1 football, Steve R providing a cross court pass to a surging Matt who applied a one touch, Van Basten-like full side volley for the goal of night. The Gaffer finished it in the last minutes nearly killing the keeper at close range, and marking the 3rd appearance of the “Buddha”. |
