Italian stallion sinks Andro

MATCH REPORT BY INKY ORD

After a Xmas hiatus, Saturday afternoon saw the Old Boys take to the court in their sharp but slightly bulging new festive red strips, facing what could have been a potential banana skin in the shape of Andro.

Missing some of our more mature - not to mention larger - players, the game set off at a frantic pace with Andro proving to be an organized, quick and skillful young team - both sides canceling each other out for the first 10 minutes. The deadlock was broken with an opening goal from our new Italian signing "Luciano Lucatoni" calmly shooting home with all the panache and grace of an Italian Vespsa. The strike settled the nerves a little and pressing hard again in a very close match the Old Boys had another goal in the net but disallowed for being inside the box. Shortly after Luciano again found the net this time with some skillful footwork and a deft touch to make it 2-0. 5 minutes before halftime Andro deservedly snatch a goal back 2-1 taking away our cushion and making us work hard to go in at 2-1 up.

The second half started as hectic as the first but the Old Boys settled down with some simpler football, consolidating defense and midfield leaving Luciano as the lone striker. This worked a treat when Chris connected with a Steve Roughead sublime pass to score a blinder from a break out of defense, giving us a 2 goal cushion, with lots of hard work again springing from a solid defense and midfield, Darren broke away and slotted home to put the game out of reach at 4-1.

A thoroughly deserved win and again maintaining a 100% record to date. No yellow cards, no red cards and no structure violations - well done lads.

In goal we had the large, looming and solid presence of Wayne - is it the padding or is it for real? The defense worked hard with some changes being made to positions and footwear notably the talismanic Mr. Roughead wearing outdoor shoes instead of indoor looked like Robyn Cousins on ice - but still managed to tackle when it counted.
Darren "Forrest Gump" Stainrod as usual provided non-stop running-lucky for us! Champagne Dom sporting his new Wizard of Oz boots, with Ray anchoring at the back and teaching etiquette to the younger members of the opposition! (don't talk to your father like that). In midfield the older experience of Des "who's ya daddy" Ebanks making an impressive debut with lots of effort, Inky being moved into midfield as a precaution of having eaten to many pies over the holidays hustling with vision, Chris adding some "spice" to the goal scoring roster, Matt impressing his father again!, Steve Gaffing with his sledgehammer size 2 Ronahldo kids boots making a dramatic miss late on - swing a little harder next time Stevie. Up front what more can we say watch out boys there's competition for the golden boot this year ! Jess with his dazzling left foot, and with nifty Luciano - Are you watching Sven & Daniel.

Now can we have the same again on Wednesday night ?
