OB crack some Coconuts

MATCH REPORT BY DANIEL CUMMINGS

The Old Boys arrived at Kings knowing that a victory was much needed to ensure a place at the top end of the league.  A mission that was accomplished in a commanding fashion with a return to winning ways Saturday by a spanking of Coconut Joes, 6-2.  The fun seemed to return to the football, something sorely missed in the recent run against the top teams.

Saturday saw the debut of Ken "Sweet Feet" Adumekwe in the midfield, who lived up to his name not leaving the fans disappointed.

Unfortunately, in similar fashion to the loss last week to DDL, the first ten minutes saw the Old Boys staring a uphill battle in the face - a 2-0 lead for Coconut Joes.  The first came from a poorly defended free kick - their man hitting a lucky shot into the top corner.  The misery was compounded a few minutes later when when Wayne having got a hand to the shot, saw it trickle over the line. Fortunately at that point, the tone of the game changed, the Old boys stepping up the intensity and pace,The defence of Dominic, Ray, Steve R and Darren locked up shop, with no further breaches for the evening the resultdominic seeing a rocket come back off the inside off the post.

It was all one-way traffic now and the comeback started soon after, with the Daniel nicking the ball from the defender and rifling home his 10th goal of the season.  With the midfield of Joe, Jess, Chris, Ken and Inky now convincing controlling the middle, the equalizer wasitching to come out. It came courtesy of a well-crafted move that cut their defence to pieces down the left flank and led to Jess "Baby Daddy" Shakespeare hitting a high shot into the top corner from tight angle.  The bench erupted and in tribute to his new born son, the team all performed the "rocking baby" celebration made famous by Bebeto in Brazil's Quarter Finals win against the Netherlandsin the 1994 World Cup.  It was Kodak moment.  The rest of the half played out, and although the Old Boys maintained the constant pressure, the breakthrough didn't come.

The second half started as the first ended and the hustle paid off, when a few minutes into the half, the OB'ss were ahead as Joe Chiazza was afforded the time and space to crack a low right-foot rocket past the keeper and into the bottom corner. The goal poured confidence into the team and with Mr. Momentum having a chance of address, the score was soon 4-2.  Claiming a pass on the right, Darren took on his defender as streaked down the sideline, banging a low shot into the net for his second of the season. Adding to his reputation of firing missles at shaking opposing keepers, Joe blasted home his second of the night and 3rd of the season to capped an MVP night. With time winding down, the Gaffer but the icing on the cake, proving too dangerous for their defence as he beat three defenders and cut back to his lethal right boot, unleashing one inside the far post.
